Wednesday Club presents the Rosemary Foundation with £1000

A group of Petersfield women have helped raise just over £4500 for the various charities during the last 16 years.

The funds included £1000 for the locally-based Rosemary Foundation. The ladies who have been involved in The Wednesday Club at St Laurence Catholic Church in Station Road since 1996 are now stepping down.

Their Chairman, Janetta Dobinson said, ‘The current Committee are now ready to retire and  leave the opening for new young blood!’ The Club was originally conceived and established for the Over 50s by the late John Doyle and Mrs Dobinson, who commented ‘which at the time did not sound as young as it does today!’

Apart from the fund-raising there were regular get-togethers with visiting speakers at St Laurence Parish Hall and the group arranged that those in local Care Homes were able to attend which was much appreciated by many.

Regular annual events of  the Wednesday Club’s programme included the Lenten Lunch, the Garden Summer Tea, the Parish Outing, and the Pre-Christmas Flower-Arranging Demonstration and more recently, a very popular Parish Quiz/Fish and Chip Supper. Naomi House Hospice and Cabrini Children’s Society are two other charities which have benefitted from the team’s efforts.

Mrs Dobinson added, ‘We thank all the parishioners and friends who have supported us throughout the sixteen years.’

Parish Priest, Father Peter Hollins said "The Wednesday Club is a handful of wonderful people who have raised funds for many charities over the years with enthusiasm and generosity”
