Volunteers celebrate and inspire in Petersfield

18/06/2011

Community First East Hampshire celebrated Volunteers Week with local groups in Rams Walk, Petersfield, and the Forest Shopping Centre, Bordon, in June. They talked to potential volunteers as well as show-casing their inspirational work and existing opportunities.

The organisation spoke to more than 300 people, giving them literature or signing them up for volunteering opportunities in East Hampshire. Volunteers Week, the 27th year it has been held, ran from June 1-7. It also sent specially-designed thank you cards to volunteers.

Terry Bishop, Chief Executive of Community First East Hampshire, said: ``This is an ideal way to recognise and highlight the work of dedicated volunteers. I am delighted that we managed to reach out to so many people and introduce volunteering to them. Last year we supported the placement of many new volunteers across the district which had a positive impact on our voluntary and community groups.``

In addition to placing volunteers, the busy Volunteer Centre responded to 1,433 online enquiries for voluntary placement during 2010-11.

Community First East Hampshire provides local voluntary and community groups with a range of support services including volunteering, training, good practice and practical advice.
