Once again the Petersfield Save the Children branch is starting its programme of events in the hope it can surpass last year’s total of over £38,000. For a rural town branch its dedicated team of volunteers and wide ranging supporters continue to rally for those less fortunate than ourselves.

Coming up on Saturday 10 March proceeds from donated lots at John Nicholson’s Sale Rooms in Fernhurst will go towards the Save the Children Petersfield branch.

Donations have been coming in and as often is the case, there are some wonderful surprises which should help boost the funds. Viewing will be held the day before on Friday 9th when several of the SCF volunteers will be at the sale rooms providing tea/coffee etc.

Three particular items donated were of great interest to Alex Chalcraft from Nicholsons and David Ford from Dickinson’s Real Deal TV programme:

3 Meissen style plates value £40-£60 for the set.
A 1940’s continental cut glass powder bowl with sterling silver engraved with owner’s initials inset with miniature cameo value £60-£80
Dorothy Colles signed chalk pictures, one of portrait of a young girl, with signatures and provenance on the reverse value £80-£100

Apart from general interest, there may be local interest in the pictures as Dorothy Colles lived in Petersfield for many years.  She was an artist in paste, oil and pencil but was especially renowned for her portraits, mainly of children. This give a great synergy with the charity and should hopefully create much interest.

The catalogue will list in red the items donated for the charity. If you have an item of furniture, china, glass or jewellery that you could donate Nicholsons will catalogue it and sell it at auction for SCF. The kind of items they are suggesting are gilt frame mirrors, pictures, coffee tables, small stools, clocks or jewellery that maybe cluttering up your home & your children will never want in their house!

Nicholsons already have a certain amount of items for this sale, but you may contact them to see if anything further is required.
