Grayshott’s adventurous music promoters, Grayshott Concerts, are making headlines again with a concert at 7.30pm on Saturday 24 March featuring works by the world’s most performed living composer, Karl Jenkins, who is the community group’s Patron.
The performance at St Luke’s Church Grayshott, will include his ‘Requiem’, second only in popularity to the ‘Armed Man’, with top local choir, Excelsis, accompanied by the Marylebone Camerata and conducted by director of music, Robert Lewis. A choir of local young girl choristers from St Thomas-on-the-Bourne, Farnham, together with trebles from St Edmund’s School, Hindhead, have been specially selected and trained to perform sections of the work.
The programme also includes Jenkins’ dynamic violin concerto, ‘Sarikiz’, with Kazakhstan’s violin virtuoso soloist Marat Bisengaliev, for whom the work was written, and will be conducted by the composer himself.
The concert opens with ‘Hymn to the Word’, for chorus and orchestra by Haslemere’s rising young composer Clive Osgood, specially selected by organisers to complement the programme.
Grayshott Concerts performances often sell out weeks in advance and this event is already attracting heavy bookings. Tickets and more information from 01428 606666 (cards accepted) or www.grayshottconcerts.co.uk
