A cycling theatre troupe will pedal through Hampshire this summer, dropping in at schools and community projects to spread the word about how our food can be made more planet-friendly.
The Totally Tasty tour, run by the Otesha Project, is now recruiting inspired and inspiring young people to join the colourful convoy in June and July.
The team members will receive training in everything from bike maintenance to running workshops and performing theatre, as well as group living skills.
The troupe will then take to the saddle for four weeks, carrying all they need in panniers and bike trailers and covering some of England's sunniest and most stunning coastline and countryside during the warmest month of the year.
Wowing schools and festivals along their route with Otesha’s play and hands-on workshops, they’ll also learn all about the environmental impact of food, exploring how it could be made more people-friendly and planet-friendly. And they’ll visit amazing food projects such as organic farms and permaculture holdings.
If you are interested in joining Totally Tasty, visit http://www.otesha.org.uk/programmes/tours/totally-coastal. If you want your school or project to be visited by the team, call 020 7377 2109 or email cycletours@otesha.org.uk.
Tour co-ordinator Calu Lema said:
"Totally Tasty is going to be an incredible experience. It begins with volunteers being trained up in skills ranging from bike maintenance to workshop facilitation and consensus decision-making.
"Then they’ll take to the saddle, travelling, eating and living together as a living demonstration of how to live in a low-impact way."
Fellow tour co-ordinator Sam White said:
"It's an amazing opportunity to do something very different indeed. They'll get to visit and stay at some incredible, beautiful sustainable food projects, and they'll spread the word to schools about issues such as Fairtrade and the impact of food production in Otesha's trademark way, using fun, creative, participatory workshops to allow children to explore these issues."
Another tour, Western Quest, is tailored for young people seeking an epic six-week adventure, taking in Wales and the south west and exploring sustainability issues across the board.
After the tour, participants will become part of Otesha’s alumni network, receiving job and training alerts and other opportunities.
