Bumper year for SCF Petersfield

11/08/2011

The Petersfield branch of Save the Children had a bumper year for fundraising events during the last 12 months. The clothes sale more than made up for the cancellation of the Schools’ Christmas Concert due to bad weather in December 2010 – and many disappointed concert-goers donated their ticket money and refused a refund.Save the Children Gift Fair

The total of £37,305 raised during the year beat the previous year by £18. This pays tribute to the generosity of the local community in a time of economic uncertainty.

Changes to attract buyers proved a great success, and opening until 9pm on the first day of the clothes sale helped those working during the day. The next change is the extended opening time to 7.30pm at the Gift Fair in November.

In a year where disasters in Tokyo, Somalia and the continuing situation in war-torn areas such as Afghanistan, the tireless volunteers continue to promote the fundraising events which support these children both at home and abroad. The recent TV advertisements state ‘No child Born to die’ and this is taken up at every opportunity.

The ‘Born to Shine’ collaboration between SCF and ITV, which aired in July, profiled awareness of the charity, raising funds and promoting youngsters who would not normally have the opportunity to ‘shine’, as they challenged and took part in coaching 15 ‘famous’ faces to learn a new skill.

If you are interested in giving some of your time to this team of volunteers SCF will be pleased to hear from you. Chairman Pauline Kneen of the volunteers says, "We do have fun, we do work hard and we do work together, because what we do is very worthwhile and the rewards are immeasurable.”
